ALOR STAR: Bina Darulaman Bhd (BDB) is planning to develop Aman Seterra Sanctuary, the world’s first international retirement village inspired by Islamic principles.
Its group executive director, Raja Shahreen Raja Othman, said the plan is in line with data from the Department of Statistics Malaysia, which shows that the country surpassed the threshold of becoming an “ageing society” last year.
He said this development would lead to increased demand for specialised elderly care services, and BDB is ready to serve as a model for sustainable retirement communities.
“Aman Seterra Sanctuary will be developed on a five-hectare site in Kuala Temoyong, Langkawi. It will be the first retirement settlement of its kind in Malaysia, catering to needs from around the world.
“It will provide services for both international retirees and local elderly residents by integrating independent living, assisted care, and long-term care,” he said at a press conference today.
Earlier, BDB, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Aman Lagenda Sdn Bhd, signed a joint venture and shareholder agreement with Seterra Holdings to develop the project.
Present at the ceremony were BDB chairman Che Had Dhali; Seterra Group of Companies executive chairman M. Yusof Ahamad; and its chief executive officer, Rashidi Yahaya.
Raja Shahreen added that Aman Seterra Sanctuary is strategically located to take advantage of the area’s natural beauty, aimed at attracting retirees from abroad.
“We anticipate that Aman Seterra Sanctuary will boost the potential of medical tourism by attracting retirees from countries such as Japan, Australia, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and across Europe.
“This will position Malaysia as a retirement hub in the region and serve as a catalyst to tap into the potential of the Silver Economy, which is worth trillions of US dollars,” he said.
