New Straits Times: BDB Land collaborates with Enfiniti Escapes to develop sustainable forest eco-resort in Langkawi

LANGKAWI: BDB Land Sdn Bhd (BDB Land), a wholly owned subsidiary of Bina Darulaman Bhd (BDB) has entered a collaboration with Enfiniti Escapes (M) Sdn Bhd to develop an eco-resort in Darulaman Sanctuary’s pristine forest here.

BDB executive director Raja Shahreen Raja Othman said the partnership marks the company’s venture into a sustainable development of forest chalets and other eco-tourism-concept developments in the four-hectare forest located in Lubuk Semilang.

“We will be focusing on an environmental-sustainable development packaged with all sorts of activities that people can enjoy within this pristine 1,000-year-old forest located adjacent to Dream Forest.

“Our intention is to maintain this forest natural attractions in line with Langkawi’s status as the Unesco Global Geopark,” he told a press conference after the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between both parties here today.

Raja Shahreen represented BDB Land while Enfiniti Group of Companies was represented by its president Puan Sri Tiara Jacquelina.

Present were Langkawi District Officer Mohamad Subhi Abdullah, Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Kedah’s chief executive officer Datuk Isahak Murat and Enspire Ventures chairman Tan Sri Mohd Effendi Norwawi.

Raja Shahreen said BDB Land will conduct comprehensive land surveys to identify the designated development areas while Enfiniti Escapes will focus on the overall concept and design of the development based on studies conducted by BDB Land.

“Additionally, to ensure alignment with conservation goals and environmental sustainability, BDB Land will collaborate with FRIM Incorporated Sdn Bhd,” he said.

Asked on the timeframe for the proposed eco-resort development, he said works would start as soon as the company obtain approval from all relevant authorities.

Raja Shahreen added that the collaboration is another ongoing effort by BDB through BDB Land to create new attractions in Langkawi and boosting the state’s tourism industry through the development of the island resort.

“With this latest collaboration, I anticipate that it will further elevate the profile and add new value to Darulaman Sanctuary, especially, and Langkawi in general, particularly involving eco-tourism not only for local tourists but also international visitors.

“BDB hopes to continue actively participating in Langkawi’s development and to receive good cooperation from all parties, especially local authorities, agencies, and state and federal government departments, so that together we can develop this island,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tiara said Enfiniti Escapes is looking forward to offer new eco-resort experience in Langkawi through the collaboration with BDB Land.

She said it also wanted to conduct on a feasibility study on any gaps in tourism products in Langkawi, such as tented resorts.

“The concept will be based on a thorough feasibility to look at what people want to do in Langkawi and how do we attract visitors to stay longer here,” said Tiara, who also operates Tiarasa luxurious glamping resort in Janda Baik, Pahang.

The parties have entered into the MOU to express intentions and will and acting as a framework before a definitive agreement is finalised by the parties. The aim is to eventually develop Lubuk Semilang as one of the premier eco-tourism hubs in Langkawi.

Upon which they will enter into a joint venture for the purpose of the eco-tourism development or other accommodation, with the possibility of a recurring partnership between the Parties.

Enfiniti Escapes pula akan memfokuskan dari konsep keseluruhan serta reka bentuk pembangunan berdasarkan kajian yang telah dilaksanakan oleh pihak BDB Land.

“Bagi memastikan pembangunan tersebut sejajar dengan matlamat pemuliharaan dan kemampanan alam sekitar, BDB Land akan bekerjasama dengan FRIM Incorporated Sdn. Bhd. bagi mendapatkan khidmat nasihat dan kepakaran mereka,” katanya dalam kenyataan di sini.

Tambah Raja Shahreen lagi, perancangan usahasama ini merupakan satu lagi usaha berterusan yang akan dilaksanakan BDB menerusi BDB Land bagi mewujudkan tarikan baharu di Langkawi yang mana secara tidak langsung ianya akan membantu Kerajaan Negeri Kedah membangunkan pulau peranginan tersebut.

Jelas beliau, pada tahun lalu BDB Land telah mengumumkan pembangunan Perumahan Mampu Milik Aman Nusa, di Bandar Kuah dan BDB Infra Sdn. Bhd., yang juga merupakan anak syarikat BDB menandatangani perjanjian jualan saham di antara Gemi Puncak Sdn. Bhd. dan juga Gemi Puncak Quarry Sdn. Bhd., dan sekaligus menjadikan Kumpulan BDB sebagai pemilik kuari granit yang terbesar di Langkawi yang berkeluasan 60 ekar.

“Dengan adanya usahasama terbaharu ini, saya mengharapkan ianya bakal melonjakkan lagi nama serta memberi nilai tambah baharu kepada Darulaman Sanctuary khasnya dan Langkawi amnya terutamanya melibatkan sektor eko-pelancongan bukan sahaja kepada pelancong

“This marks a significant milestone in realising BDB Group’s intention to develop Lubuk Semilang as one of the premier eco-tourism hubs in Langkawi,” said BDB in a bourse filing on Tuesday.

BDB said its wholly owned subsidiary BDB Land Sdn Bhd had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Enfiniti to establish a basis of cooperation and collaboration between the two parties. Enfiniti is involved in the business of hotels, resort hotels and other accommodation development.

Under the MOU, BDB Land will undertake to conduct a full land survey on a piece of identified land upon execution of this MOU, and furnish the land survey report to Enfiniti. On its part, Enfiniti will prepare a full concept and design for the development of the land, based on the land survey report furnished by BDB Land.

The execution of the MOU is not subject to approval of shareholders of the company or any relevant authorities.

BDB shares closed down 0.5 sen or 1.72% at 28.5 sen on Tuesday, giving it a market capitalisation of RM88.15 million.

Under the MOU, BDB Land will conduct a land survey, and Enfiniti will design the development based on the survey report.
