New Straits Times: BDB rolling out three housing projects with GDV value of RM1.3b

ALOR STAR: Bina Darulaman Bhd (BDB) has lined up three urban and affordable housing development projects with a Gross Development Value (GDV) of RM1.3 billion to improve the living standards of Kedahans.

BDB chairman Che Had Dhali said the housing development projects comprised Darulaman Lagenda in Sungai Petani, Darulaman Saujana in Kubang Pasu and Aman Nusa in Langkawi.

He said the projects account for a substantial portion of the overall GDV of RM1.5 billion worth of projects being undertaken by the group as of June 2023.

“BDB Infra Sdn Bhd (BISB), a wholly-owned subsidiary of BDB, has been awarded a road maintenance contract worth RM204 million by the state government, involving the road maintenance of Zone 1 districts which include Kota Star, Padang Terap, Pokok Sena, Kubang Pasu, Pendang, Yan, and Sik.

“BISB has also succeeded in bidding for a Tersier Irrigation System project, with a contract value of RM34.08 million, as well as the land acquisition of Gemi Puncak Quarry in Langkawi, at RM13 million.

“Alhamdulillah, it is hoped that these projects will drive growth and generate income for the company in the coming years while elevating BDB to a higher level,” he said during a press conference after chairing the 28th Annual General Meeting of BDB at Raia Hotel here today.

Also present was BDB chief executive officer Raja Shahreen Raja Othman.

Che Had said that BDB is also committed to implementing six initiatives aligned with the Kedah Development Plan 2035 (Kedah 2035).

He said the initiatives include connectivity and infrastructure development, environmental sustainability and green initiatives, sustainable agriculture and food security, as well as tourism and cultural heritage.

“BDB has now taken steps to explore business opportunities in the renewable energy sector, including green urban development and solar photovoltaic installations, which will also be implemented in several upcoming housing development projects.

“BDB also supports the development of the state’s agricultural sector by promoting sustainable practices and leveraging technology and innovation, aiming to explore new initiatives in sustainable agriculture to ensure food security, including through aquaponics systems.

“Additionally, through Darulaman Park, BDB positions itself as a diverse and dynamic tourism destination, attracting domestic and international tourists and contributing to the overall growth of the tourism industry specifically for Kubang Pasu District, thus contributing to the success of Kedah 2035,” he added.

Commenting further, he announced that BDB had achieved impressive financial performance for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2022, recording a pre-tax profit of RM9 million in 2022, an increase from RM7.8 million in 2021.

“Revenue has also increased from RM201.7 million in 2021 to RM231.4 million in 2022, thereby increasing cash reserves from RM66.3 million to RM79.9 million for the same period,” he added.

Meanwhile, on a separate matter, Raja Shahreen assured that the upgrading works on the Pelubang Water Treatment Plant (WTP) had been smooth sailing.

He said the WTP upgrades, aimed to resolve water supply disruptions in Kuala Kedah and Kubang Pasu, are on track for completion by 2025, as scheduled.

“The project is on schedule. A small percentage of progress, and I would say everything should be good,” he added.
